Senior Exercise Designer for the Strategic Policy Forum Program
Colonel Steven J. Tomisek (Ret.),an independent contractor providing national security consulting and support services to public sector clients, has been under contract to National Defense University as the Senior Exercise Designer for the Strategic Policy Forum program since September 2002. An infantry officer by occupational specialty, he served in various command and staff assignments during a career spanning more than 28 years of active military service. Commanding operating forces and supporting establishment organizations from platoon through regimental size, his final command tour was as the Commanding Officer, Recruit Training Regiment, Parris Island, SC.
Staff assignments included two O-6 level tours at Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps (Director, Inspection Division and Head, Expeditionary Policies Branch); joint duty assignments at the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Assistant for Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict Policy Coordination) and National Defense University’s Institute for National Strategic Studies (Senior Military Fellow); and, assignments as the Operations Officer of a battalion, regiment, and Marine Expeditionary Brigade.
Colonel Tomisek earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Ohio State and a Master of Public Administration in the Management of National Resources at The George Washington University. His military education includes The Basic School, Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Areas of expertise include strategic-level exercise design, Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) employment, interagency planning and coordination, entry-level training, and distance learning.
