Senior Military Fellow in the Strategy and Operations Division
Major Mike Ponchak serves as a Senior Military Fellow in the Strategy and Operations Division at the Center for Applied Strategic Learning where he helps develop and facilitate strategic exercises is support of National Defense University components, the Joint Staff, combatant commands, other federal agencies and institutions, and academic outreach audiences.
A native of Ouray, Colorado, Major Ponchak received his commission from West Point in 1998 and subsequently held a variety of operational assignments in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC, and in the 3rd Corps Support Command in Germany and Iraq. Most recently, he completed a Pentagon staff assignment at Headquarters, Department of the Army G3/5/7 as an Army Strategist.
Major Ponchak holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science – International Relations from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of International Public Policy degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College’s Defense Strategist Course and Basic Strategic Arts Program. His areas of interest include strategic theory, American foreign and defense policy, civil-military relations, and national and military strategy.
